Hello, everyone.

我是世界动物保护协会的赵中华

I am Zhao Zhonghua from World Animal Protection.

世界动物保护协会总部设在伦敦

Headquartered in London,

具有联合国全面咨商地位

World Animal Protection has a UN general consultative status,

且在全球50多个国家开展动物保护工作

and we work in more than 50 countries.

我们希望世界上的所有动物都能免于伤害

We want to see a world where all animals are free from suffering,

人 动物和自然能够和谐相处

and humans, animals and nature live in harmony.

我的演讲主题是

Let me start from the title of my presentation:

《野生动物是大自然不可分割的一部分》

Wildlife Belongs in the Wild.

为什么野生动物是大自然不可分割的一部分

So why wildlife must belong in the wild?

因为野生动物是大自然不可分割的一部分

Wildlife is an unseparated part of nature.

所有的野生动物

We must say all wild animals,

每一种动物都是自然界整个生态链中

every kind of animal is an unseparated part

不可分割的一部分

of the nature of the whole ecological chain.

所以我们必须保护整个生态链

So we have to protect the whole ecological chain.

海南有着独特的气候

Hainan has a very unique climate.

属热带气候区

Hainan covers tropical climate areas.

具有独特的生态系统

It has a unique ecological system.

这种生态系统极其珍贵

It's extremely precious,

但也非常脆弱

but it's also very fragile.

刚才很多朋友提到

As many friends just mentioned,

海南仅有36只长臂猿

we only have 36 Hainan Gibbons in Hainan,

在全球也只有这么多

in the whole world.

如果把海南长臂猿和大熊猫相比较

So if we compare Hainan Gibbon with a giant panda,

我们能发现很多有意义的事

we can say a lot.

首先 全球有2000多只野生大熊猫

First, there are more than 2,000 giant pandas living in the wild，

它们属于世界自然保护联盟易危物种

So pandas are now on the IUCN’s vulnerable level,

而海南长臂猿的数量只有36只

but the number of Hainan Gibbon is only 36.

它们属于极度濒危物种

So it's critically endangered.

那么为什么海南长臂猿没有得到应有的重视呢

So why Hainan Gibbons hasn't got the level of attention it deserves?

我们还有很多工作要去做

We have a lot of work to do.

海南长臂猿只是其中一个例子

And Hainan Gibbon is just one of the examples.

还有许多其他物种也同样面临着这样的处境

There are many other species,

包括海南的许多珍稀动植物

including precious animals and plants in Hainan and unique to Hainan.

保护它们 匹夫有责

We have a great duty to protect them.

对公众而言

For the general public,

我们也要意识到

we also need to be aware,

当我们讨论保护生物多样性时

when we say we protect biodiversity,

这也是在保护我们人类

it's basically we will protect human beings,

我们赖以生存的一切和我们的文明

livelihood, and all civilization.

为什么这么说呢

Why is that?

因为我们的食物

Because our food,

药物

our medicine,

水

our clean water,

空气

our fresh air,

所有的一切都与生物多样性密切相关

are all closely linked to biodiversity.

没有比这更重要的了

Nothing is more important than this.

在这里我想介绍

And here I also would like to introduce

一个叫做“同一健康”的概念

a concept called one health.

同一健康意味着

One health means

人类 动物

the health of humans, animals,

和生态系统的健康是相互关联的

and ecosystems are interconnected.

他们不能被分割

They cannot be separated with each other.

当我们谈论动物时

when we talk about animals,

其实是包括家养的动物 宠物

including farmed animals, pets,

和大多数野生动物

and majority of wild animals.

如果动物无法健康地生活

If animals are not healthy,

人类就无法健康地生活

our human beings cannot be healthy.

因为人类和动物

And human beings and animals

共享同一个生态系统

share the same ecological systems.

海南自由贸易港正在如火如荼地建设当中

Hainan has a great program to develop the Hainan Free Trade Port.

它是一个战略性的宏伟目标

This program is a great initiative,

但它也会给海南的生物多样性带来挑战

but it can create challenges for biodiversity protection,

因此我们所有人都有义务

so we have the obligation, all of us.

每个人都有义务

Each and every one of us has the duty and has the obligation

to turn the challenges into opportunities.

将这种挑战化为机遇

当我们发展经济时

So when we develop our economic projects,

每个项目

every project,

我们都要将生态保护纳入考虑范围

we take into biological protection angle into it,

从而确保我们想要发展的每个项目

make sure every project we develop,

做的每个投资

every investment

都对野生动物和生态环境友好

must be wildlife-friendly, biodiversity friendly.

如果我们能以海南自由贸易港建设

If we can use the Hainan Free Trade Port program

为契机为生物多样性保护做出贡献

as an opportunity for biodiversity protection

让海南成为中国乃至世界生物多样性

and make Hainan one of the best examples

保护最好的范例之一

of biodiversity protection in China and in the world,

那就是个十分伟大的成就

how great that would be.

同时 我们也可以借此机会

We can also take the opportunity

推动国际合作

to promote international cooperation.

众所周知

As we all know,

动物保护

animal protection,

生物多样性保护是全世界共同致力的目标

biodiversity protection are universal languages.

海南可以加强

Hainan can promote cooperation

与世界各国相关机构的合作

with many institutions from other countries, from all over the world.

正如总领事墨泰先生说的一样

As we just heard from Mr. Matt Moody, Consul-General’s speech,

中英两国在推动生物多样性领域合作方面

there is great willingness to promote cooperation

有很强的意愿

in biodiversity between China and the UK.

不久前 中国驻英国大使郑说

We also know the Chinese ambassador to the UK not long ago said

中英要在生物多样性保护方面进行合作

China and the UK must cooperate on biodiversity protection.

由此可见

So it's obvious

双方都有发展合作的意愿和热情

there is bilateral willingness and passion to develop cooperation.

让我们共同期待 不远的将来

Let's see, not long in the future,

海南会成为中国生物多样性保护

Hainan will become one of the best name cards

最靓丽的名片之一

of biodiversity protection for China.
